Tried a Silky saw 15 years ago after only using Stihl, never went back
Picked up a Silky Zubat at a demo in Portland back in 2010 and cut through a 12 inch limb in about 8 seconds flat, has anyone else found one brand of manual saw that just ruined all others for them?

...but that's the thing though, you see this same pattern everywhere once you start noticing it. It's like cars or boots or even just how people make coffee. Some folks want the thing that does one job faster and sharper than anything else even if it costs more and breaks sooner, while others want the thing that's cheap and reliable and you can beat on it forever. I got a buddy who still uses a handsaw his grandpa gave him and he cuts just fine, he'd probably hate a Silky because it'd feel too fragile to him. Neither way is wrong, it's just two different ways of looking at what a tool is supposed to be.

Hold up, I gotta push back a little bit here. I've had a Silky in my pack for a few years now and yeah they cut fast, but I've also snapped two blades on knotty wood. For the price of replacing those things you could buy three decent Corona saws. Plus that fast cut means you better have good control or you'll bind up and ruin the cut. I guess I just dont get the hype when a basic folding saw gets the job done for a fraction of the cost. Feels like one of those tools that people get snobby about for no real reason.
2
