Tried the 3-point foliar spray trick on a big maple last fall

I saw this tip online about spraying the underside of leaves specifically to get better uptake. Figured I'd try it on this 60 year old silver maple in a client's yard near Portland. Ended up burning about 30% of the canopy because the concentration was too strong for that variety. Learned real quick that not every species handles foliar feeds the same way. Has anyone else messed up a treatment by following generic advice without checking the specific tree first?

Burned 30% of the canopy" oof, that stings just reading it. I mean, it's so easy to trust a generic tip without realizing how different each tree can be. Hope the maple bounces back okay, that's a tough lesson to learn the hard way.
