Vent: My $400 pole saw head snapped on the first big branch.

I was doing a backyard prune in Tacoma and the whole thing just gave out, so what's a solid brand that can handle a 6 inch maple limb without breaking the bank?

My last pole saw lasted exactly one branch, so I feel your pain! I've had good luck with the basic Oregon brand ones from the hardware store.

Oregon's a solid choice for the price. I've found the key is to check if the pole sections are fully locked before you start cutting, a loose joint will snap quick. Also, go easy on the pressure and let the saw do the work, forcing it just kills the blade. Cheap ones can last a while if you're not trying to take down a giant oak in one go.
