Wasted $350 on a tree wrap that did nothing for my maples
I bought this expensive trunk wrap 8 months ago, put it on 3 young maples I planted near my driveway. Figured it would protect them from sun scald and frost cracks. Wrapped them up tight in November and just unwrapped them last week. All three have bark damage where moisture trapped under the wrap rotted the cambium. Lost 2 of the 3 trees for sure, the third one might make it but it's rough. Anyone else have bad luck with those tree wraps or is there a trick I'm missing?

Buddy of mine did the exact same thing with his oaks. Wrapped them up thinking he was being smart and half the bark peeled off like wet cardboard when he took the wrap off. Lost all four of them over the next year.

Did you at least cut the wrap in spring or wait too long? The trick is to take it off before the sap really starts flowing or you're basically steaming the tree alive. I've seen it happen with young maples too, bark just slides right off if you miss that window.
