Field notes on a $2 clipboard changed how I log digs

I used to scribble loose paper that got rained on or blown into a trench in Nevada, but after losing three weeks of unit records last fall, I now clip everything to a cheap board and log each level right at the pit edge, which has cut my errors down to nearly zero, so has anyone else made the switch to a rigid backing or do you still trust loose sheets?

Is a clipboard really going to save you from rain or wind? I mean, I get the frustration of losing notes, but a cheap board doesn't stop a page from getting soaked unless you're also carrying a plastic bag and a bungee cord. Most days I just tuck my sheets in a ziplock and shove them in my back pocket, works fine even when I'm crawling around in the dirt. And if you're making errors that bad, maybe the problem is your handwriting or your field book system, not the backing. Honestly, three weeks of records lost sounds more like a storage issue than a paper vs. board thing. But hey, if it makes you feel better, clip away.
