Finally saw why people dig up old privy pits. Changed my mind.
Used to think digging old outhouses was dumb. Then a buddy found a full 1880s medicine bottle in his second pit last month and I witnessed the whole thing. Anyone else get converted on a specific dig?

Oh man, tell me about it! I was totally the same way until I pulled a Civil War era clay pipe out of a pit behind an old tavern site. Just the feeling of holding something that hadn't seen sunlight in well over a century, you know? It's like finding a little time capsule that was just sitting there waiting for you. Now I can't walk past an old property without wondering what's buried in the backyard.
