Hit 1,000 field IDs in the lab, but the jar of dirt made it real
I do artifact sorting for a CRM firm in Albuquerque. Last month I logged my 1,000th field identification, all lithic flakes and sherds. Kind of a boring milestone honestly. But what got me was a tiny soil sample from an old pit house site, just a quart bag of dirt. It had micro-beads and bone fragments I nearly tossed. That one bag took three days to fully sort. It made me think about how many milestones we miss because we rush the small stuff. Anyone else have a boring sample that turned out way denser than expected?
