I finally gave up on my old trowel and the difference was insane

So for like six months I was using this cheap, flimsy trowel I got at a general store near the dig site. It bent if you hit a rock, and the handle gave me blisters after a couple hours. Last week I caved and bought a proper Marshalltown pointing trowel for about $45. I mean, I was scraping away at this compacted soil layer in a test pit, and the new one just sliced right through. The balance is totally different, and I could actually feel the texture changes in the dirt, which helped me spot a tiny pottery shard I would have missed before. It's not just about the tool, it's about how much more you can actually notice when you're not fighting your equipment. Has anyone else had a simple gear swap that completely changed your focus on site?

It's funny how a good tool makes you feel less like a laborer and more like a detective.

Right? A great screwdriver turns a chore into a puzzle. You're solving something, not just working.

Exactly... it's that click when everything lines up. A cheap tool just fights you the whole time. The right one feels like an extension of your hand. Makes the work quiet so you can actually think.
