Read somewhere that tree ring patterns can actually match up with historical records of wildfires or major weather events. My granddad used to say you can tell the year a tree got hit by lightning by how the rings grow all tight and weird around that spot. Always thought he was pulling my leg until I saw this old pine in his yard that had a real messed up section from some storm in the 80s. Nature's weirder than we give it credit for lol.
