That 2,000 year old Roman dodecahedron still bugs me more than it should

I mean, I get that not every artifact has a clear use, but come on - we've found over 100 of these things across Europe and nobody can agree on what they were for. Has anyone here actually seen one in person or handled a replica to test a theory?

Seen a replica at a museum event once and tried to use it as a knitting spool. Worked okay but honestly a plastic one from the craft store did the same thing for like three bucks. Maybe the romans just really liked overcomplicating their yarn projects.
