That old pottery shard I almost tossed turned out to be 800 years old

I found this weird piece of painted clay in my backyard near Austin last summer and nearly chucked it in the trash, but a buddy from UT’s anthro department looked at it and said it’s from a prehistoric Caddo vessel. Made me wonder how many legit artifacts get thrown away by accident - has anyone else had a close call like that?

Wait, you almost tossed a PREHISTORIC artifact? Dude that would have been such a massive regret. I totally get how easy that is to miss though, I found an old bottle in my grandma's shed once and it turned out to be from like the 1920s. Glad you kept it!

Hold up, a 1920s bottle? That's insane, those old milk bottles or medicine bottles can be worth a pretty penny if they're legit.
