Can we talk about the fight between cheap acrylic yarn and good wool for a first sweater?
Two months ago I stood in a craft store in Boise staring at a $28 skein of merino and a $4 ball of acrylic, and I went with the cheap stuff because I was scared of messing up. Big mistake. The acrylic squeaked on my needles, my gauge came out two stitches off, and by the time I hit the sleeves the fabric had pilled into a fuzzy mess. I ripped the whole thing out after 14 hours of work. What should I try for sweater number two, or is there a budget wool that won't break the bank?
