My aunt in Savannah said to stop buying fancy paints and just use a cheap sponge, and she was right
I've been doing watercolor for about 4 months now, mostly landscapes and a few bad portraits. My aunt in Savannah has been painting for 30 years and she told me to stop spending money on $18 tubes of paint at the art store downtown. She said to grab a $2 pack of kitchen sponges and use those for texture instead of buying brushes. I ignored her for a while because it sounded too simple, but last weekend I tried it on a tree line and the leaves came out way better than anything I'd done with a brush. My total supply cost went from around $60 a month down to maybe $10. Has anyone else gotten a tip like this that felt too easy to actually work?
