Plastic tubers vs. fabric pots, I pulled all 40 plants after 8 weeks
Last spring I repotted my indoor herbs and flowers and had to pick between plastic nursery pots and fabric grow bags. I went with the cheap plastic ones because they were $1.50 each at the big box store and I thought fabric would dry out too fast. By week 8 the roots were circling the bottom and two basil plants just stalled no matter how much I watered. A friend at the community garden told me fabric pots air prune the roots so they branch instead of choking. I pulled everything out one Saturday, spent $32 on a bundle of 10-gallon bags, and re-potted all 40 plants. Within two weeks the tomatoes looked noticeably bushier and the drainage was way better, no more soggy soil smell. Has anyone else had that same stubborn phase where you stick with the cheap option way too long just because it was easier to find?
I did the same thing with tomatoes one year, kept buying the dollar store pots because they were right there and I figured roots were roots. Switched to fabric bags mid season and the plants took off, mostly because the soil actually drained instead of sitting wet.
