Genuine question: why do people act like parking closer is always better

I've watched people circle a crowded lot for 10 minutes to save 100 feet of walking, then hit the gym that evening. In downtown Seattle last Saturday I parked at the far edge and got to the game in half the time they did. Anyone else notice this or am I overthinking it?
