Got scammed out of $260 by a fake tow guy on I-94 outside Kalamazoo last Tuesday
Blew a tire on I-94 just past the Kalamazoo exit last Tuesday around 9pm. This guy pulls up in a truck with no markings, says he's with a local shop and can get me off the shoulder for $260 cash. I was tired, it was dark, so I handed it over. He hooks up, drags my car about half a mile to a closed gas station, unhooks, and takes off before I can even get his plate. Called the actual shop the next morning and they'd never heard of him. State police said this is the third one they've heard about on that stretch this month. I'm out $260 plus another $180 for the real tow the next day. My advice, never pay cash before the tow is done and always get a company name first. What's your go to move when some random shows up claiming to be a tow truck at night? Seen this trick anywhere else?
