Had a weird talk with a cashier at the 7-Eleven on Elm Street that still bugs me

I was grabbing a coffee around 2 AM last Wednesday and this older guy working the register just looks at me and says "you know, most people never really stop to think about what they're running toward." He wasn't even talking about anything I did, just out of nowhere. It got me wondering if random strangers actually see something in us that we don't see in ourselves. Has anyone else had a cashier or clerk drop some weird truth on you like that?

That cashier was probably just bored or lonely at 2 AM honestly. Night shift workers get philosophical when it's dead quiet and nobody's buying beer. Still weird he picked you though. Maybe you looked lost or rushed or something. Late night gas station encounters always feel deeper than they actually are.
