Hand wrote my grocery list for a month, app version won by a mile

I keep a running list on my phone but last month I switched to paper and a pen to test my memory. Turns out I forgot items on 6 out of 10 trips and spent about $35 extra on stuff I already had. The app lets me check things off as I finish them, so nothing slips through when I'm tired. Paper felt nicer but my brain just doesn't hold onto 'pick up dish soap' once I've left the kitchen. Anyone else find that typing a list beats writing it, or am I just lazy with paper?

It's not about being lazy with paper, it's about how your brain works when you're tired. That app check off thing is the real game changer because it gives you a tiny hit of dopamine every time you complete an item. But you said "test my memory" and then forgot stuff, that's the thing, writing a list is not a memory test, it's a way to dump the info out of your head. The $35 extra is just the cost of finding out that your grocery store trips are more about autopilot than conscious thought. Honestly the only time paper wins is when the app dies or the store has no signal, and then you're stuck with a useless phone.
