Lost $60 on a fake 'vintage' watch at a flea market in Phoenix

I saw this old watch at a stall last Saturday, seller swore it was a 1960s piece and my gut said grab it. Paid $60 cash, got it home, and the back popped off when I tried to set the time. Inside was a cheap quartz movement, not even close to vintage, so now I'm stuck with a shiny paperweight. Anyone else ever get burned by a flea market find and figure out a way to spot the fakes before handing over money?
