My go-to strategy for handling interruptions in meetings backfired yesterday

I usually wait for a pause to speak up, but yesterday in our budget meeting, my coworker kept talking over me. I had an important point about cost savings, and he just steamrolled right through it. I felt so annoyed! I've seen others deal with this, but I'm not sure what to try next. What do you all do when someone won't let you share your thoughts? I'm open to any tips that have helped you!

Sounds like your coworker missed the memo on basic meeting manners, lmao. Next time, maybe just start talking louder until he gets the hint, like a budget meeting duel. Seriously though, it's so annoying when people act like their point is the only one that matters. I've seen people use the 'accidental' mute button trick to cut in, but that might be too petty. Hope you get to share your cost savings idea eventually, lol.

Cost savings points matter, but one interrupted moment in a meeting might not be worth deep frustration. In many teams, people step on each other's words without meaning to. Your coworker could have been overly eager, not rude. I've seen similar cases where a quick chat after the meeting solved more than a confrontation during it. Sometimes letting go of small slights keeps the work place calm. If it keeps happening, then it's a pattern to address, but for a single instance, maybe just note it and move on.
