Never trust 'quick sync' on a project folder, 3 hours gone

I spent 3 hours last night fighting a file mess after I clicked 'quick sync' on my work folder. It said it was done in 40 seconds, but then half my files showed up as duplicates with weird names. I only caught it because a client asked for a specific PDF and I couldn't find the original. Turns out the sync tool had a bug with files that had spaces in the name. Had to manually go through 150 files and delete the copies. Anyone else had a similar issue with sync tools doing silent damage? What do you use to check that everything actually lined up?
