Question about my mom's old cast iron skillet restoration

I cleaned up my grandmother's cast iron skillet from the 1960s last Sunday. After stripping it with vinegar and reseasoning it three times with flaxseed oil, the surface went from rusty to mirror smooth. I saw a huge before-and-after difference in just one weekend. Has anyone else had luck with flaxseed oil for seasoning?

Did your mom try seasoning with bacon grease first? My buddy did the same project on an old Griswold and said it smokes less than flax oil but gets just as slick.

Yeah that sounds about right. Bacon grease is forgiving and doesn't smoke you out of the kitchen like flax oil does. Plus it builds up nice and smooth over time if you don't use too much.
