Realized I was ruining my cast iron pan after a talk at the farmers market

I was at the Portland Farmers Market last Saturday and this guy running a skillet booth told me I was scrubbing my pan wrong. I had been using soap and a rough sponge for months, and he said to just use salt and a paper towel. Tried it on Sunday morning and my eggs slid right off for the first time ever. Has anyone else gotten secret cooking tips from random vendors like that?

That salt trick saved my bacon literally last week.

Soap and a rough sponge never ruined my pan in 10 years of daily use.
