Showerthought: I dropped $200 on a premium 'Ask Anything' community SEO audit and it was a total scam.
The report was just generic advice you could find for free, like 'use keywords' and 'get backlinks'. Has anyone actually gotten real value from one of these services, or are they all trash?

Two hundred bucks for a "use keywords" tip sheet is insane.

Honestly, did they even look at your specific site or community? The real scam is when they don't mention your actual competitors or audit your existing backlinks. Tbh, a real audit should point out your ten weakest pages and give you a list of ten real sites you could actually get a link from.

That part about them not looking at your actual competitors or backlinks really hits home. Did they even mention a single real site you could try reaching out to, or just give you a list of generic blogs no one can actually get a link from? Because if they didn't name names, you basically paid for a pamphlet they copied off the first page of Google.
