The public library's 3D printer took me 4 weekends to finally use

I kept hearing how easy these things are. Walk in, send the file, walk out with a part. Turns out the signup system hides the file prep requirements. I brought a model that was way too complex, wasted my first two slots, then the librarian spent 30 minutes showing me the slicer settings. Total time from first attempt to working print was about 9 hours across 4 separate visits. Anyone else get stuck on a simple maker space tool longer than they want to admit?

See I used to be one of those people who thought 3D printers were basically just fancy glue guns, you know? Like you hit print and it just works. But watching my own kid struggle with the library's setup for a whole afternoon changed my tune real quick. The slicer part is where it all falls apart, everyone forgets about that. It's not the printer being hard, it's all the invisible prep work that nobody tells you about until you're already sitting there confused. I mean, now I get why the librarians keep those orientation classes, it's basically a whole hidden curriculum.
