Vent: paid $89 for a "lifetime" cloud backup and lost 4 years of photos anyway
Back in 2021 I signed up for a cloud backup service that promised to keep my files safe forever for a one time $89 fee. Fast forward to this March, my laptop died and I went to restore everything, and the company had quietly shut down in 2023 with zero warning emails. I lost around 4,000 photos from trips to Yellowstone and my sister's wedding because I never kept a second copy like an idiot. Now I keep two external drives and rotate them every Sunday night, which takes me about 10 minutes. Has anyone else been burned by a "lifetime" deal like this, or am I the only one who fell for it?
