Why does half the internet think bleach kills mold on drywall?

I keep seeing people online saying to spray bleach on moldy drywall in basements and it drives me crazy lol. Bleach is like 90% water so it just soaks into the gypsum and feeds the mold deeper instead of killing the roots. I learned this the hard way after treating a spot in my laundry room only to have it come back worse 3 months later. Anyone else dealt with this or found a reliable alternative besides just cutting out the drywall?
