Dropped $450 on a used star tracker and it saved my Milky Way shots
I shoot from my in-laws' place outside Flagstaff where the sky is super dark, but my tripod shots kept coming out with trailing stars after 15 seconds. So I bought a used iOptron SkyGuider Pro for $450 on a forum, and it was a total game changer for my Milky Way photos. Now I can do 2 minute exposures at ISO 800 instead of stacking 40 noisy shots, and the core detail in Sagittarius is way cleaner. The catch is polar alignment eats 10 minutes every session and I got maybe 3 keepers a night before, now it's 20. Who else here is shooting tracked and what's your limit before the sky glow ruins it?
Dropping from 40 stacked shots to 2 minute singles must have helped a ton with noise, but Sagittarius core detail usually comes from stacking even when tracked. Polar alignment gets faster once you mark your tripod legs and do it a few dozen times.
