Had a terrible night trying to photograph the Perseids last week
I drove an hour out to a dark spot near Lake Chelan, set up my gear, and then the clouds rolled in at 11 PM. Waited two hours hoping they'd clear, but it just got worse. Finally packed up at 1 AM and drove home in the rain. Has anyone else had a whole viewing night ruined by unexpected weather like that?

That spot near Chelan ALWAYS gets socked in by August fog.

Actually that spot near Chelan is pretty notorious for marine layer fog in August, but the Perseids peak is usually mid August when the fog is worst. If you try again for the Geminids in December, same spot is way clearer since the marine layer isn't as active then.
