I called that $800 Sigma telephoto a waste until I actually shot the Andromeda galaxy with it
Two camps here: the guys who say you need $3000 of glass for deep sky shots and the folks getting solid results from cheap lenses stopped down, and after 2 months of fighting noise at f/8 I honestly can't tell which side I'm on, so where do you all land on budget glass for astro?

Stopped my buddy's cheap 300mm down to f/8 and he got better stars than my fancy glass.
