Just realized my best shot came from a total equipment failure in Joshua Tree

I was set up for the Perseids last August when my main camera battery died (forgot the spare, classic). So I just pointed my phone at the sky for a laugh and got this wild, grainy streak that actually looks cool. Do you think a perfect technical shot is always better than a lucky, messy one?

My old point-and-shoot caught a better sunset than my DSLR ever has.

Better sunset" is a pretty big claim lol. Gear doesn't make the photo, the person does. Maybe you just got lucky with the old camera.

Haven't you ever had that one random shot on an old phone or camera that just looked way better than it had any right to? I've got a photo from 2008 on some cheap point-and-shoot where the light hit just right and it's still one of my favorites. Meanwhile my current setup takes a thousand decent shots but rarely catches that kind of magic. Sometimes the luck of the moment matters more than any settings or glass. I think it's the whole "right place right time" thing plus maybe you're not overthinking it with an old camera. You just snap and move on instead of fiddling with exposure for five minutes and missing the shot.
