My kid said my astro photos look like 'space noise' and it got me thinking

Honestly, I was showing my 8 year old my latest shot of the Orion Nebula from my backyard in Phoenix. She looked at it for a second and said, 'It's pretty, but it's just a lot of colorful noise.' Tbh, that hit different because I spend hours on processing to pull out detail, but she just saw the final image as a busy pattern. It made me wonder if sometimes we over-process to the point where the natural beauty gets lost. Has anyone else had a moment that made you step back and simplify your editing?

My own edits sometimes look like a toddler's glitter explosion.

That "toddler's glitter explosion" line from @lane.angela is so real. It makes me wonder if we're actually scared of making something clean and simple. Maybe we keep adding more edits because a finished, polished piece feels final, like we can't change it anymore. A messy edit feels safer, like the work is still in progress and we can't be judged as harshly. So the glitter explosion isn't just about bad taste, it's a weird comfort zone. We'd rather have a messy draft than a done project.
