My star tracker kept drifting, then I tried the ziptie hack from a random forum post

Last month I was out at Big Bend with my old iOptron mount and every 30 second exposure had trails across the stars. I checked the polar alignment three times, leveled the tripod twice, and still got nothing but streaks. Then someone in a Facebook group suggested wrapping a heavy ziptie around the declination axis knob to add friction against the backslash. I tried it with a 8 inch ziptie from my car kit and suddenly got a clean 90 second shot of the Orion Nebula. Has anyone else found a dumb mechanical fix that beat a fancy software solution?

Holy crap, an 8 inch ziptie gave you a clean 90 second shot? That's wild, I've seen people throw hundreds of bucks at guiding software for that.
