Shoutout to the old guy at Bryce Canyon who showed me how to stack exposures
Last summer some retiree named Ed saw me struggling with star trails and walked me through his whole process for like 20 minutes. He pulled out a beat up notepad with handwritten settings from 2018 and basically saved my trip. Anyone else run into random strangers who just happen to know exactly what you're doing wrong?

Yeah but did Ed also tell you to take a nap first? That's the real pro tip.

That's a solid question actually. Did Ed give you any specific reason why he thought stacking would work better than just a single long exposure for star trails? My curiosity is what convinced him to switch over from the old school method. I know some folks swear by single shots but others say stacking cuts down on noise and battery drain.
