Stop polar aligning to the wrong star, your drift shots are lying to you

For months I kept getting slight star trails on 60 second exposures even with my mount's polar scope dead centered. Finally realized I was aligning to Polaris but my finder scope had a tiny misalignment that put it off by almost a full degree. Checked with a drift alignment method last weekend near Flagstaff and it fixed everything. Took 20 minutes and now my subs are round at 120 seconds. How many of you actually verify your polar scope alignment against the mount's axis instead of trusting the reticle from the factory?
