Dropped 6 grand on a new AC unit last July and it died two weeks later during a heatwave

Hired a guy off Nextdoor who seemed legit and now I'm stuck fighting the warranty company while my house hits 95 degrees, anyone else had to deal with a shady HVAC contractor in the Atlanta area?

...and honestly I wonder if the guy who installed it even pulled a permit, because here in Atlanta the city requires them for major HVAC work and if he skipped that step it could make your warranty claim a lot harder. I had a similar situation a few years back where the contractor just vanished and turns out he wasn't even licensed with the state, the Secretary of State's website has a lookup tool that showed his license was expired. Also check if he used a credit card or any kind of payment that might have buyer protection, because your bank could help fight the charge if you used plastic. I bet the warranty company is looking for any excuse to deny you and lack of a proper permit is a huge red flag for them.

The part about the permit being the issue hits hard. You really think a guy wiring up a 6 grand machine would skip something that basic? That's just asking for trouble with the warranty company. They're probably already rubbing their hands together looking for any excuse to say no. If he didn't pull a permit in Atlanta that's a whole new level of shady. Makes you wonder if he even knew how to install it right or if he just watched a YouTube video before showing up.
