Found a busted pipe behind my kitchen wall at 2am

Was at Home Depot off Ponce de Leon last Saturday getting paint samples. Overheard two contractors talking about old galvanized pipes in houses built before 1980. Didnt think much of it until I heard dripping behind my kitchen wall at 2 in the morning. Crawled under the sink and found a pipe with rust holes the size of a dime. Had to call a plumber at 4am and he charged me $450 for an emergency visit. Said half the houses in this neighborhood have the same problem. Now Im checking all my exposed pipes every month. Anyone else dealing with old plumbing in their older Atlanta home?

Wait, doesn't it feel like once you notice one broken thing in your house, you start seeing problems everywhere? lol. I've been there with my own place, not the pipes thank god, but the whole "oh great, what's next" feeling is real. It's like once you fix one thing, the universe decides to test you with something else, like a car problem or a leaky faucet right after. I swear owning a house is just a never ending list of stuff that slowly falls apart, and you're just running around trying to keep it all together.

Exactly though, once you fix one thing it's like the house knows and throws another problem at you just to keep you humble lol. Did you ever find yourself putting off a small repair because you were too tired from dealing with the last three things that broke? I'm asking because I've got a loose doorknob that's been sitting there for two weeks and every time I walk past it I just sigh and keep going.
