Found out my gutter downspouts were dumping water right into my crawlspace for 2 years
Last Saturday I was moving some boxes in the basement and noticed the concrete block wall near the back corner felt damp and cold. Went outside during the rain and watched the downspout on that corner just pour straight down next to the foundation with no extension at all. I always assumed the previous owner had it set up right, but nope, it had been soaking that corner since we moved in back in 2022. Got a 10 foot flex extension at the hardware store for 14 bucks and the wall is already drying out. Anyone else find a cheap fix like this that made you feel dumb for not checking sooner?
Did you know clogged gutters can cause the same problem even with a downspout? I read that water backs up and spills over the edge right at the foundation, so it might be worth checking those too.
