Update: I swore off bidding flat rate on roof repairs, one hail storm in Marietta flipped me
Three years back I got burned on a flat rate bid for a Norcross rental and ate about $1,400 in extra plywood, so I went hourly on everything after that. Last week a guy in Marietta called about hail damage on a 22 square ranch and I almost passed it up. I walked the deck with him, counted 11 soft spots, wrote the flat number on a napkin, and he signed it on the spot before I could second guess myself. My crew knocked it out in two days and we still cleared more than the hourly jobs on my board that week. Anybody else flip back to flat rate on storm work, or am I setting myself up for another bad one?
