Finally got my 2006 Polaris Sportsman 500 to idle smooth after 3 months of tinkering

You say "idle smooth" but I bet it still shakes like a paint mixer at 600 RPMs. Those old Polaris carbs are junk, man, no way you got it actually dialed in without a micrometer and a prayer. I'd be willing to bet the fuel screw is still three turns too rich and you just got used to the stumble. 3 months of tinkering just means you settled for something that barely runs, not that it's actually fixed.

6 turns rich? Took mine 2.5 to hit clean.
