Finally tried studded tires on the ice trails after years of chains

I always ran chains on my ATV for winter riding up near Eagle River, but switched to studded tires this season. The difference in grip on hardpack was night and day (no more bouncing around on every turn). Has anyone else made that swap and noticed a big change?

Buddy of mine up in Fairbanks tried that swap last winter. He was running chains for years on his ice fishing rig and kept getting bounced sideways on corners. First time he hit a hardpack turn with studs he said it felt like the tires were glued down, no slip at all. He ended up selling his chains the next week. You noticing a big difference in stopping distance too?

Nah, chains bite harder on ice than studs and cost way less to replace if they wear out.
