Had a weird clutch issue on my old Polaris that took a month to pin down

It started with a high-pitched squeal only when the sled was cold, which I thought was just a belt. Replaced the belt, but the noise came back after two rides. I checked the primary clutch spring and weights, which looked fine. Turns out, the bushing in the secondary clutch was worn just enough to cause a bind, but only below freezing. Has anyone else had a clutch noise that only showed up in really cold weather?

Honestly, I've never had that problem with my Polaris. Mine just runs quiet, even when it's stupid cold out.

That cold weather bushing bind is a classic Polaris headache. I've seen it cause a squeal even with new belts. The secondary clutch tolerances just don't hold up in deep freeze conditions.

Yeah, that "deep freeze" point from @the_pat is spot on. I had a brand new belt start howling at -20 last season. The fix for me was pulling the secondary apart and cleaning the bushing with brake cleaner before a light coat of dry graphite lube. Letting the sled warm up for a solid 15 minutes before moving also helps a ton. It's just one of those polaris things you learn to deal with.
