My buddy in Michigan said to always pack an extra quart of oil for a long snowmobile weekend, and he was right when my sled started burning it after 50 miles of deep powder.

Has anyone else had a machine start eating oil way faster than usual when you're really working it in fresh snow?

Fifty miles and it was already burning a quart? That's wild. I've seen them use a bit more oil when you're really on the throttle, but that seems crazy fast.

That's a huge amount of oil to lose so fast. It makes me wonder if something else was going on, like a seal giving up under the load. Running wide open in deep powder puts a crazy strain on the engine, but a quart in fifty miles is more than just heavy use. I'd be checking for leaks or smoke right away after a burn rate like that.

Heard piston rings can go fast in those conditions.
