My sled got stuck in deep powder near Lake Tahoe and I had to dig it out for two hours.

I was riding off-trail near the backside of Spooner Summit, thinking the fresh snow was perfect. I hit a drift that looked solid but it just swallowed the whole front end. The skis were buried up past the handlebars. I only had my small shovel, so I had to dig with my hands for a while to even reach the tow strap points. Has anyone found a good lightweight shovel that actually holds up for situations like this?

I read a review saying the Voile Telepro shovel is solid for deep snow.

Why even bring a shovel if you're going off-trail in deep stuff like that? A small shovel is basically useless for a real recovery. Sounds like you just weren't prepared for the conditions you chose to ride in. Maybe stick to the trails if your gear isn't up for it.

What's with the attitude, @fiona_clark? A small shovel is better than no shovel at all. Maybe they just learned that lesson the hard way.
