Still kicking myself over that $200 brush guard I bought last winter

I picked up this fancy aluminum brush guard from a shop outside Bangor back in December. Figured it would protect the front end when I was plowing my driveway. First big snowstorm I hit a hidden stump and the whole thing bent like tinfoil. Cost me another $80 to have a guy straighten it out enough to even keep using it. Anyone else ever get burned on something that looked way tougher than it actually was?

That brush guard story brings back a memory. My brother got one of those heavy duty chrome push bars for his old F-150. Looked like it could stop a moose. First thing he did was nudge a frozen snowbank a little too fast and the whole mounting bracket snapped clean off. He ended up just bolting a piece of railroad tie to the front and calling it good. Sometimes the cheap stuff actually holds up better than the fancy aluminum junk. I swear half these aftermarket parts are just made to look tough for parking lots.

Yeah, "looked like it could stop a moose" is the perfect way to describe those things. I had a buddy with a similar setup on his Ram, and the first time he tried to push a snowbank it just folded in on itself. @the_alice your brother's railroad tie solution is honestly smarter than half the stuff they sell at the parts store. All that brushed aluminum stuff is just for show, not actual work.
