That one trick with the idle screw saved my trip last weekend
Was out on the trails near Big Bear and my sled kept dying every time I let off the throttle. Tried cleaning the carb, checking the fuel line, nothing worked. Then this old guy rolls up on a beat up Polaris and tells me to just turn the idle screw a half turn. Fixed it in 30 seconds and I got another 4 hours of riding in. Anyone else ever had a simple carb adjustment save their whole day?

Smart move. An overly lean idle will kill a sled every time. Those pilot circuits are finicky and altitude changes mess with them too. Half turn is usually the fix but any more than that and it gets boggy. Did you check if the idle was actually too low or just a dirty pilot jet that needed the air mix?

That thing you said about altitude changes messing with the pilot circuit - that's something I've noticed applies to a lot more than just sleds. It's like how people adjust their whole way of thinking when they move to a different city or start a new job. You gotta dial in that air/fuel mix for your new surroundings or you'll sputter out. Same with relationships, really. Sometimes a half turn on the air screw, metaphorically speaking, is all it takes to smooth things out but you push it too far and you're just bogged down.
