Three seasons of fighting with my sled till a mechanic pointed out my carb was set wrong
I've been messing with my 2015 Skidoo for like 3 winters, blaming bad fuel and crappy spark plugs for why it bogged down every time I hit deep powder. Last month at a trailside stop in Grayling, an old guy just walks over, listens to it idle for ten seconds, and says 'your pilot screw is three turns out too far, buddy'. Has anyone else had one simple fix make them feel like an idiot for months?

Read in a snowmobile forum that 90% of starting/running issues are just carb tuning, not actual mechanical failures. One turn of a screw can save you three seasons of headaches.

My 2016 Polaris gave me fits for two winters until I swapped out the fuel lines for 3/8" ID line from the auto parts store. That fixed a lean sneeze at half throttle that three different mechanics had blamed on reed valves and crank seals. I'm not convinced carb tuning is the cure-all people make it out to be. Sometimes it's just bad ethanol gas or a cracked rubber boot that looks fine until you flex it the right way. The old guy at Grayling got lucky with his guess, but I've seen those pilot screws get stripped out because someone kept turning them thinking it'd magically fix everything.
