Told a guy at the trailhead my Ski-Doo was sputtering and he just pointed at the gas cap vent.
Turns out the vent was plugged and he didn't even say a word, just pointed, and after I cleared it the sled ran perfect, anyone else had a mechanic moment from a complete stranger in the middle of nowhere?

Haven't you noticed how people out in the backcountry are way more helpful than in the city? Out there, nobody wants to see you stranded, so they'll give you the exact fix without any small talk or ego. In town, someone might try to sell you a new carburetor or charge you for a diagnostic, but out on the trail, a guy just points at a vent and moves on. It's like nature strips away all the nonsense and leaves only the practical know-how. I think that's because in the wilderness, we're all just trying to get by and help each other out, no strings attached. That kind of silent, direct help is almost better than a full conversation sometimes.

Good point @hugobarnes. Out there everyone's on the same level, just trying not to freeze or starve. City folks have too much noise and distractions to think straight.

That reminds me of a time up in the White Mountains, my truck overheated and some old timer just walked over, pointed at a clogged radiator hose, and walked away. No yapping, no trying to sell me anything. In the city I'd be waiting an hour for a tow truck that costs half my paycheck. Out there everyone just gets it, like we're all in the same leaky boat trying not to sink. It's that raw, honest help that sticks with you way more than a fancy mechanic's bill.
