Unpopular opinion: I sold my 4 stroke sled for a 2 stroke last season and it was the right call.
Everyone told me the 4 stroke was more reliable for trail riding in the UP, but the 2 stroke just feels right in deep powder. I picked up a used 800 and the weight difference is night and day when you're stuck. Anyone else make the switch and regret it, or are you all happy with your heavy sleds?

The smell of two-stroke oil is part of the fun for me.

Yeah, I made that switch a few years back. My old 4-stroke was a tank, and I spent more time digging it out than riding. The 2-stroke is just easier to manhandle when you're buried. I do miss the quiet ride on the trails, though. My buddies can hear me coming from a mile away now.

My uncle's a forest ranger in Montana and he told me they're seeing way more trail closures for motorized use. The noise thing isn't just about annoying people, it's actually pushing land managers to ban bikes from certain areas. That quiet 4-stroke might be the only thing allowed on some public land in a few years. It's a real trade-off between having fun now and keeping trails open later. Makes you wonder if the loud pipe is worth losing the riding spot.
