10 years in and I just learned I was using a DA sander wrong
I always kept the pad flat and just pressed down hard like a grinder. A coworker at the shop last Thursday pointed out I was leaving holograms all over my paint jobs. Has anyone else had to unlearn bad habits from early in their career?

10 years in and I just learned" - man, that hit home. I did the same exact thing with my first orbital sander. Kept leaning into it like it was a power drill, figuring more pressure meant more sanding. Took me six months and a buddy yelling at me before I realized I was just making a mess. It's embarrassing but honestly it happens because nobody hands you a manual for this stuff, you just copy what you see or figure it out as you go. The hologram thing is rough though, at least you caught it before a customer complained about their paint job. Better to learn it late than to keep doing it wrong forever.
